BBC iPlayer Crashes in iOS 10

Last updated: July 21, 2016 at 14:22 pm

Problem: The popular BBC iPlayer doesn’t work on devices running iOS 10. It crashes immediately as you open the app.

And what does this mean? You can neither watch the live BBC channels nor programmes and exclusive content iPlayer has to offer.

We first found the issue via Twitter, wherein a lot of folks tweeted BBC to fix the broken iPlayer app.

Unlike other media houses, BBC replied immediately stating the fact that the iPlayer doesn’t support iOS 10 beta.

They have also linked to a BBC page where it’s mentioned:

“We’re aware of some reports from users stating that BBC iPlayer will not work on their iPad or iPhone device with iOS 10 installed.

We can confirm that we don’t currently support iOS 10. If you want to use BBC iPlayer as normal you would need to downgrade your OS.”

BBC iPlayer (version 4.19) was last updated on July 11th, 2016. It was working flawlessly on iOS Beta 1, but not on iOS 10 Beta 2. Strange we know.

For now, the only fix is to wait for a new update – either from the BBC or from the Apple.
